The Nokia 6500 Classic is one of two handsets in
Nokia's 6500 series. Like its brother, the 6500 Slide, the Classic
sports an elegant look, quad-band GSM/EDGE and dual-band UMTS support,
and the latest version of Nokia's S40 user interface.
Besides third generation WCDMA technology and classy and fashionable design, the Nokia 6500 classic is incredibly compact and perfectly balanced, being easily recognizable by its aluminum mono block casing. Nokia 6500 classic is not exactly a classic phone, instead it is a declaration of the passion for details, materialized in an ultra slim product (9,5 mm). The featurelist of the Nokia 6500 Classic matches what you'd expect
from a mid-range 3G phone in 2007: a 2 megapixel camera (no autofocus -
so don't throw away your digital camera!), a competent music player
(although support for Bluetooth stereo headsets is missing), a video
camera and good connectivity via USB and Bluetooth. There's nothing to
get very excited about here, but it ticks all the boxes that most
people will care about.

The small d-pad on the Classic works quite well thanks to its easy to
find and raised silver edge that surrounds a large central select
button. The two softkeys and the red and green call control keys are
also small, but work well. The alphanumeric keypad takes some getting
used to, though. The raised silver bars on the keypad separate very
small keys. The attention for details is found also inside the phone; using the S40 interface, this quad-band phone offers easy access to its set of features: 1GB on-board memory, the Nokia regular 2-megapixel camera, 3G dual-band for high speed web actions: headset, charging the phone and data cable.
The 6500 Classic is capable of email as well as typical SMS and MMS messaging functions. I was able to setup and use an IMAP based personal email account without any problems at all. SMS and MMS also worked just as expected. The 6500 Classic supports EDGE and GPRS data on any of its four GSM bands and faster 3G UMTS data on the 850 and 2100MHz bands.
We do like the 6500 Classic. It's a very beautiful phone and lovely to use. It isn't all-singing and all-dancing, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. |
